ABOUT JOANNA FAIRSERVICE PHOTOGRAPHY
From the Beginning
I was born in Dubai and began my photography career while at Dubai College by interning in the photography department of Motivate Publishing, the most successful publishing house in Dubai. Subsequently I learnt the tricks of the trade on the job and became a full time photographer the following year. My pictures became a regular feature in magazines such as Hello, Whats On, Stuff and Emirates Woman to name just a few. During this period I became interested in both wedding and portrait photography and developed a particular affinity for travel and children's photography.
I left Dubai for London and while studying for my degree in History of Art and English Literature I trained at Chelsea and Westminster hospital as a Bounty Ward Photographer capturing portraits and the first moments of up to 18 newborn babies a day! Working in a hospital environment taught me the safest and most comfortable ways to photograph newborns so I really do treat your little ones as if they were my own.
I enjoyed my work both in the fashion and lifestyle industry and as a hospital newborn photographer but I found that my passion lay with real life moments so my focus is now on capturing cherished memories for families. This allows me to work from home where I have two gorgeous children; Ari and Theo. I work on a word of mouth basis so I don't allow myself to take on too many clients and can really give each project my full attention.
My style is very naturalistic and clean as I use natural light as much as possible. I work mostly on location around Dubai (and the UAE) and my expat background allows me to take my clients off the beaten track to locations that really represent the heart and heritage of our Middle Eastern home.
For home sessions I have a portable studio which allows me to do both family and newborn sessions from the comfort of my clients house. This allows my subjects to feel at ease in front of the lens and I find that is how the most beautiful photographs can be captured.
I charge 1000 dhs for for my family and newborn sessions which includes all the images I take. I don't have any hidden costs and send everything fully edited in black and white and colour so it is often 100+ photographs!
